Safe Sauna Use for the Whole Family

Summer is just around the corner and you may be thinking about how you’re going to spend it. Maybe you’re thinking about going on vacation, or spending some time at the pool or in your hot tub. All of these are great options. But have you ever thought of using a sauna as a family activity? It may sound like a crazy idea, but saunas are a great option for family time. Here’s how to ensure safe sauna use for the whole family.

Keep your kids safe.

Saunas are a great activity for kids of most ages, but not all. Generally, kids under the age of six to eight should not use a sauna, and kids under the age of 12 should not use a sauna without adult supervision. Kids do not regulate their body temperature as well as adults do, so it’s important to make sure they are safe and don’t overheat. While adults may be able to stay in the sauna for 20-30 minutes at a time without issues, kids should not be in the sauna for more than 10-15. Before spending time in the sauna as a family, make sure to talk to your pediatrician for better guidance on what’s safe for your children. Every child is different, and their doctor will be able to provide more specific guidance based on their history.

Enjoy some quality time.

There is nothing more precious than the moments spent with your children. With everyone on their phones these days, it can be hard to get your kids to put them down and tell you about their day. But, you’ll have their undivided attention while you all are in the sauna. Depending on your child’s age, you could have 10-30 minutes together as a family each day. This is just enough time to catch up with each other and talk about your day. As they get older, they can spend longer in the sauna, and may even pass this tradition onto their own family some day.

Choosing the Right Sauna

Not all saunas are created equal. At Texas Hot Tub Company, we only sell the best Finnleo® saunas. Finnleo saunas can be custom designed to create the perfect fit for you, your home, and your family. Whether your family and your space are big or small, with Finnleo, we can make it happen.

Not only do you have the choice on your sauna design, you also have the choice between a traditional or infrared sauna. Traditional saunas are the ones that have been used for hundreds of years and use both wet and dry heat. Infrared saunas are the more popular saunas in the U.S. They don’t get quite as hot as traditional saunas, which may provide a better option for families with children under 12. Whichever you decide on, just make sure to supervise your children and make sure they let you know if they’re getting too hot to ensure safe sauna use for the whole family.
