Why Can’t Table Salt Go in My Spa?
Useful and inexpensive, salt is an excellent resource for use in all sorts of instances. Not only does it add flavor to life, but it’s also fantastic for all sorts of other uses. Wouldn’t it be easy to use that same salt in your saltwater spa?
Salt is just salt, right? Well, not exactly. There are many different versions of salt. But the salt that you are thinking of can cause you some issues if you throw it in your hot tub. First, table salt isn’t pure salt. It has binders and other additives that may be present. Don’t go dumping this into your hot tub. These additives can interact poorly with your spa chemicals since table salt is not tested as a salt solution for hot tubs.
Table salt also is very small. The mini-sizes granules dissolve too quickly in hot water. You want special salt that sanitizes your spa. Salt that contains sodium chloride is going to interact with your cell to convert to usable natural chlorine. You won’t get that transaction with any old table salt.
