When and How Do I Add Sanitizers to My Hot Tub?

add sanitizers to your hot tub

Hot tub maintenance may seem complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. As you begin to learn more about hot tub water care, you’ll start to get into a routine and it’ll just become second nature. But before that happens, you need to know when and how to add sanitizers to your hot tub.

When do I add sanitizers to my hot tub?

When you add sanitizers to your hot tub depends on what kind of sanitization system your hot tub has. Luckily for you Hot Spring® Spas makes this pretty simple. Hot Spring Spas Highlife® and Limelight® collections use the FreshWater® Salt System, while the Hot Spot® collection uses the FROG® @ease In-Line System. Both of these are chlorine-based systems, though the FreshWater Salt System creates chlorine rather than you adding the chemical directly.

With either of these systems, you just replace a sanitizer cartridge every 3-4 months, depending on how often you use your hot tub. And that’s it! You will still have to balance your chemicals more often, but the main sanitization can be done once a quarter.

If you’re looking for an easier way to sanitize and balance your chemicals within those 3-4 months, try Silk Balance® Everfresh. You just add this to your hot tub once a week and you’re done. It’s so simple!

How do I add sanitizers to my hot tub?

We may have gotten a little ahead of ourselves on this answer. But, actually adding your sanitizer to your hot tub is pretty easy. With all Hot Spring Spas models, all you have to do is replace the sanitizer cartridge. Take the old one out, put the new one in, and you’re done.

For the Silk Balance, you’ll just add one pod per week into your filtration compartment. By adding this where your filter is, you’ll be able to ensure that the chemicals spread throughout your entire hot tub. There’s no taking anything out like with the cartridges; it’s really as easy as putting a pod in.

What about shock?

If you’ve heard about hot tub sanitization, you’ve probably heard about shocking your water. So when and how do you do it? Like the other sanitizers, it’s quite easy. Every time you drain and refill your hot tub, you’ll want to shock your water with just one capful. Like the Silk Balance, you’ll add this directly in your filtration compartment.

However, there will be other times you need to shock your water. For example, if you have had a lot of people over, there is a lot more bacteria to throw your water balance off. Check your chloramines, and if you’re in doubt, head on over to Texas Hot Tub Company and we’ll help you figure it out.

While you’re at it, we can help you with more than just shocking your hot tub water. We can also help you get a new hot tub if you need one, and we have all of the products you need to keep your hot tub in top shape.
