What’s the perfect temperature for your hot tub?

As a new HotSprings Hot Tub owner, it’s essential to find the perfect temperature for the ultimate soaking experience. You’ll find a lot of guidance on the subject, but most spa dealers recommend new owners start with a temp of 102°F and build up to the maximum temp of 104°F.

On the other hand, you’ll discover hot tub owners in cooler regions prefer a 104°F temperature pretty much all the time. Keep in mind there is no right or wrong water temperature; it’s really about personal preference and your ideal spa experience.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission suggests spa water temperature is best between 100°F and 102°F.

Water Temperature Facts

  • The majority of hot tub owners prefer soaking in temperatures between 100°F and 102°F.
  • Hot tub water should never exceed 104°F according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
  • Women who are pregnant or people with a heart condition should always consult with a doctor before using a hot tub.
  • Children 5 and under should never be in a hot tub over temperatures of 95°F, nor remain in a hot tub for more than 5-10 minutes. And they should never, under any circumstances, be allowed to use a hot tub unsupervised.

Finding the Sweet Spot

When you find the temperature that’s most comfortable for you and your family, keep it in that range. Frequently lowering and raising the temperature can increase your operating costs and put a lot of unnecessary strain on your heating element.

How Long to Soak

Your typical plans immediately following a soak will help determine the optimal temperature and how long to soak. For instance, 102°F, is the best temperature for feeling refreshed, waking up, and preparing for a good night’s rest.

  • For those who want to feel energized, soaking for 10-15 minutes is exhilarating.
  • An early morning dip with a cup of coffee is a great way to fully wake-up your mind and body.
  • When trying to relax and unwind completely, soaking for about 20-25 minutes will help you sleep better.
