Water Conservation: Using a Hot Tub in a Drought

using a hot tub during a drought

If you own a pool or hot tub, a drought makes keeping and caring for them concerning. When your municipality insists on strict usage guidelines for water usage, you may be afraid you can’t use your hot tub during this time.

Our Texas Hot Tub Company experts are no strangers to these circumstances. We are here to help you conserve water and still use your hot tub during a drought.

Keep The Hot Tub Water Clean During a Drought

Balance Your Water – Making sure that the chemistry of your hot tub water stays well-balanced means that you will be able to use the water you have in your hot tub longer.

You will need to follow a strict maintenance schedule so you don’t have to replace the water to fix a problem. If you maintain things well, your hot tub water can last four to six months.

If following a strict schedule isn’t for you, no sweat. Just sign up for our hot tub services so that you know things are being maintained for you.

Shower Off Beforehand – To help maintain the chemistry of your water and help it last longer, take a quick shower before using your hot tub.

Be sure to rinse thoroughly because you don’t want soap residue in your hot tub. This will keep additional contaminants from entering your water, causing a need to refresh it.

Use Tennis Balls Another great way to pull extra contaminants out of your hot tub during a drought is to use tennis balls after a soak. They help to grab oils and other things out of the water, ensuring everything stays nice and clean.

Make Upgrades to Your Hot Tub to Make it More Efficient During a Drought

Hot Tub CoverAdding a hot tub cover or upgrading your old one can help to keep your hot tub water from evaporating. If it is hot and dry enough for a drought, your water will probably evaporate faster. So keep a high-quality cover on unless you are in the hot tub soaking. It will also help maintain water balance by keeping contaminants and debris out and help to retain heat in the winter.

Upgrade Your Hot Tub – If you’re using a hot tub that’s older, and it seems like you spend a lot of time trying to keep your water balanced, it’s likely because your older model is inefficient.

Hot tub cleaning systems have come a long way and can now keep the water clean longer. It may be worth upgrading to a new HotSpring® spa, so you only have to change your water two to three times a year!

Drain and Fill Your Hot Tub BEFORE a Drought Happens

If you are approaching time for a drain and fill, you can always do it a little early before the weather typically gets hot and dry.

Check your weather report and if things are projected to dry out, go ahead and drain and fill your tub for the summer.

Use Your Hot Tub Water for Other Purposes

If you reach a point where you have to drain and fill during a drought, you can allow the water that you are draining to water the lawn or garden. This will ensure your water gets the most usage.

If you still need help or guidance, our experts and service team are here to help. We can do anything from helping you select the perfect hot tub for you to servicing your existing tub.
