Traditional & Infrared Saunas

saunas

Saunas have been around for over a thousand years in one form or another. People realized how great they felt after regular sauna use and the tradition began. Today, people still love the benefits of a sauna. Some prefer traditional methods while others like more modern technology for their sauna sessions. Whether you use traditional or infrared you will still get a great sauna experience. Both of them provide amazing health benefits for your body, mind, and soul, but they are very different in their approach. Let’s look at some of the differences between traditional and infrared saunas so you can decide which option is best for you.

Temperature

One of the biggest differences in saunas is their temperatures. A traditional sauna simulates a fever in your body, so you can sweat out the toxins. They can reach temperatures in upwards of 185-195 degrees. Infrared saunas use much lower levels of heat. Because they use infrared light to achieve health benefits, they only heat to between 120-150 degrees. If you are heat sensitive this will be a big determining factor when deciding which kind of sauna is best for you.

Steam

Traditional saunas often times use steam to help produce their benefits. The steam helps to open the pores and creates the perfect setting for eliminating toxins. On the other hand, infrared saunas have no steam. All of their results come from the infrared lights. Many people enjoy the steam of a sauna claiming that it adds to their sauna experience, but there are definite advantages to no steam.

Cost

Cost is another place that saunas differ. There is not a huge cost difference, but infrared saunas do typically cost more upfront than traditional saunas. The opposite is true when it comes to energy costs. Infrared saunas cost about one-third as much to run when compared to traditional saunas. They require much less power and that means savings for you on your utility bill.

The bottom line is that traditional and infrared saunas both provide amazing health benefits. Which type of sauna is best for you, really comes down to personal preference. If you like heat and steam, traditional is the way to go. If you are looking for less heat, but deep muscle penetration then an infrared sauna is right for you.
