Top 3 Tips for Maintaining Your Swim Spa This Winter

What are our top 3 tips for maintaining your swim spa this winter? One of them includes keeping a cover on, like this man putting the cover on his Endless Pools Fitness System.

Let’s be honest: cleaning isn’t anyone’s favorite part of owning a swim spa. And when you add cooler weather into the equation, it’s hard to get motivated. While it may not be fun, maintenance is really important in keeping your swim spa functioning efficiently. Here are our top 3 tips for maintaining your swim spa this winter.

Put Off the Procrastination

Have you been putting off changing your water or even closing your swim spa for the winter? It’s time to stop the procrastination. As the weather continues to get colder, it’s going to be more difficult to do the things you’ve been putting off. It’s also better to change the water or close your swim spa, if you choose, before it gets too cold out. Not only will you not want to do it in the colder weather, it could also cause issues in the system’s operations. Put off the procrastination until spring when it’s warmer out and take care of your swim spa now.

You should also make a plan for continued maintenance throughout the cooler months. If you don’t close your swim spa for the winter, you’ll need to continue your maintenance routine as usual. Making a plan now, such as which days you’re going to clean, will keep you motivated later. Just be sure to keep your schedule flexible in case the weather gets bad.

Keep an Eye on the Water

If you keep your swim spa open for the winter, be sure to keep an eye on the water. This includes both water levels and temperature. If you let the water level drop too low, it could cause the pipes and heater to freeze. Make sure to periodically check your water levels, especially if you don’t use it for a few days, to make sure they don’t get too low.

You also want to keep an eye on the temperature of your water. Make sure to keep it around 80-100 degrees, depending on preference, even when you’re not using it. During the colder months, it’ll take longer to heat up your pool. Keeping it at a higher temperature constantly will help keep the water from freezing as well.

Plan to Prevent Freezing

Even in Texas, it’s possible for the weather to drop below freezing. If you don’t close your swim spa, you need to plan to prevent it from freezing. The easiest way to do this is to continually use your swim spa. How great is that?! However, when you’re not using it, you need to make sure it’s always covered. While it’s great to do this year-round, it’s especially important in winter to keep the water from freezing.

You’ll also want to make sure you winterize your swim spa. Endless Pools® offers a winter insulation kit that will keep your swim spa protected and functioning efficiently all winter.
