Three Hot Tub Myths – Busted

With the fall season in full swing, the warm bubbly goodness of a spa is a perfect investment in outdoor living. But if you’ve never purchased a hot tub before, you may be a little confused and overwhelmed with the thought of “taking the plunge.”

Coleman Backyards is here to help make the buying process simple and stress-free, with 3 busted hot tub myths – and the truth.

Myth 1: Don’t try before you buy.

Although every spa feels relaxing, there can be a profound difference between brands and models. It’s important to make sure the spa you choose won’t be too big or too small.

One of the biggest deal breakers can be the depth of the seats. You’ll want a spa where the water cover your shoulders on a cold night. And consider: do you want a lounge seat?

Don’t overlook the jets in the footwell to massage those tired feet. Or the rest of the jets, either. Jet placement provides different types of massages; you need to make sure the jets actually hit those targeted areas. Consider the power of the jets, and how easily the controls can be adjusted, too.

If you don’t try before you buy, you may end up with a spa that’s loud and irritating and doesn’t meets your family’s needs.

Busted! Always wet soak before you buy!

Myth 2: Buy a cheap hot tub to save money.

Being frugal doesn’t just mean buying the best deal on a price tag. Often, that cheaper up-front cost means you’ll spend more in the long run because cheap hot tubs have less installation, thinner covers, and are less energy efficient. Simply put, they cost more to run. Plus, they tend to break down more frequently and have shorter warranties.

Busted! You get what you pay for, so don’t be cheap.

Myth 3: More jets = a better experience.

The more, the better, right? Think again, and don’t be fooled by the window dressing of dozens of jets dazzled in metal trim. Many first-time buyers are mesmerized by the appearance, which is meant to impress. Instead, pay close attention to the actual size or sizes of the jets, whether they pulsate or massage, and if they directionally targeting those sensitive areas.

Because most spa buyers are looking for relief, make sure the seating and jets are placed to give you comfort in all the right places, such as your lower back, hips, neck, or feet.

Busted! It’s not the quantity of jets but the quality that counts.
