How Does a Hot Tub Filtration System Work?

Your hot tub’s filters are the silent heroes that make relaxing in your spa possible. Behind the scenes, the filters keep your hot tub clean with clear water that is safe for use. Since it can’t be seen in action, you may be curious, how does a hot tub filtration system work? Here is everything you need to know about hot tub filters and how they function to keep you hot tub clean, clear, and ready to enjoy.

Why a Hot Tub Filter is Important

No one wants to soak in spa water that has floating leaves, dirt, or bugs. Thankfully, a hot tub filter removes visible debris from your hot tub, making it more enjoyable to use and preventing contamination. In addition, you may not even realize the other work your filtration system does in removing unseen contaminants from the hot tub water. These contaminants find their way into the water off the body and clothes of users which can include perfume, deodorant, laundry detergent from swimwear, lotions, sunscreen, and so on. Your hot tub filtration system works hard to remove these invisible particles from the water and preventing it from getting cloudy or foamy.

The Filtration Process

The filtration process begins as water is circulated through the system. The water passes through a large pleated cylindrical filter that strains out debris, oils, and the like. The pleats and folds in the filter increase the surface area for maximum filtration power. At Texas Hot Tub Company, we recommend you run your filtration every day to ensure your hot tub has clean, clear water.

Why Hot Spring Hot Tubs Gets it Right with the Filtration System

HotSpring® Hot Tubs have one of the best filtration systems in the industry. Instead of the typical paper-like polyester filters found in most hot tubs, HotSpring Hot Tubs created the TRI-X® filter, a superior ceramic fiber filter that has more than double the cleaning area. These innovative filters not only make your water cleaner, they lead to more powerful jets, energy savings, and more. TRI-X filters are available on all Highlife® models. With a HotSpring Hot Tub, hot tub maintenance is simple and you can rest assured your water is undeniably clean.

How to Care for Your Hot Tub Filter

Neglecting your hot tub filters can strain the hot tub pump, prevent your water from being cleaned, and ultimately decrease the longevity of the spa and its parts. At Texas Hot Tub Company, we recommend you remove your filters once a month for cleaning. Use a hose to thoroughly clean and remove visible particles, being sure to clean in between each of the accordion folds. Then, whenever you drain and refill your hot tub water (approximately three to four times a year), we recommend you soak the filters in a filter cleaning solution.  Give your filters some love! They keep your hot tub ready for you to use, after all.
