Helpful Hints for Maximizing the Benefits of Your Home Sauna

Your new Finnleo® home sauna is probably one of the best investments you’ve ever made when it comes to your health and happiness. There’s no question that your sauna makes you feel rested, rejuvenated, and even more serene than you ever thought possible. But did you know you can give your steam room a boost to maximize the host of heated benefits it already provides? Check out a few of these helpful tips for the next time you want to get steamy.

The Before and After: A Shower Story

Did you know that the soaps, deodorants, perfumes, and lotions you use everyday create a barrier on your skin? All these products you use are designed to either ward off sweating or to make you smell better when you do. However, sweating is exactly what your home sauna is created to make you do. Try hopping in the shower before you enter your steam room to initiate faster, more productive perspiration.

And, if you want to feel completely rejuvenated, slip into the shower after your session for a quick rinse. Skip the body wash, since you’re already clean, and you’ll feel absolutely renewed in mind and body — also known as “sauna goals”!

The Bare Essentials in a Home Sauna

Wearing clothes in your sauna makes it hard for your sweat to evaporate. You really need the perspiration to evaporate, because it signals your body that you need to keep sweating to keep cool. If you have an infrared sauna, this is especially true. You want maximum skin exposure for the infrared heat to do its job. Steaming au natural also allows for a more effective sauna experience, since your body is more exposed to pain relieving heat.

Got milk?

Did you know that milk is actually more hydrating than water? But, even if you’re not a milk drinker, the importance of staying hydrated while using your sauna can’t be understated. On average, a sauna user can expect to lose as much as a pint of water in a single session. While this is good news for your body as it releases toxins, it can also be unhealthy if the water is not quickly replaced. Avoid caffeine and alcohol, and opt for water, milk, or even juice.

Timing is Everything

Staying in your home sauna too long can be unhealthy, but not staying in it long enough doesn’t give it the chance to work its magic. So how long should you steam? Well, that answer really depends on you and your personal history. Most users enjoy a 10 to 15 minute session, but that can vary based on your age, and health condition. If 15 minutes just isn’t long enough, you can stretch it out by practicing something called “cold-shock”. This means you take a quick, cold shower to cool your body down, and then hop back in for round 2, or even 3.

Exfoliate + Circulate = Illuminate

Exfoliating your skin while steaming it up is a great way to maximize the health benefits of your sauna. When you exfoliate, you promote circulation and stimulate your pores for the ultimate sweat session. You don’t have to scrub too vigorously, but a light scratch or tap on your skin can go a long way in creating that illuminating glow of healthy skin.
