Does My Hot Tub Need to Be Serviced?

So you’ve started to run into issues with your hot tub. Whether you’re a new or experienced hot tub owner, any issues can be concerning. Some of these issues can be handled on your own, but some of them may leave you wondering, “Does my hot tub need to be serviced?” We’re here to help you figure out whether a DIY fix is fine, or if you need some professional help for your hot tub.

What Issues Can I Handle Myself?

Many hot tub issues you can handle yourself. For example, if your hot tub doesn’t seem to have as clean or warm water as usual, it’s usually an easy fix. All you have to do is clean your filter or balance your water, and it should be good as new.

There may also be issues with your hot tub’s power system. Again, you can usually handle these yourself. Just like any technology issues you have, always start with the simple turn it off and turn it back on again. 9 out of 10 times your power issues will be fixed, and you can get back to enjoying your hot tub.

But What if That Isn’t Working?

There are some issues that you won’t be able to fix yourself. According to Hot Spring Spas®, these include:

  • “Repeated power shutdowns or losses”;
  • “The spa repeatedly stops heating”;
  • “Controls repeatedly shut down or the remote refuses to connect”; and
  • “Water level drops or water is noticeable around the hot tub”.

Again, you can handle these hot tub issues like you would any other issues you have around your house. If your internet keeps shutting down or your A/C or heater stops working, the first time you’re going to try to fix that yourself. After that, you’re going to call a professional for help.

The only exception to this rule is water leaks. If your sink or some other appliance in your home seems like it has a leak, you may try to fix it before calling a plumber. Do not do this with a hot tub; always contact a professional at the first suspicion of a water leak. There are too many electrical parts in your hot tub to take that risk.

What if Everything is Fine?

If everything is fine with your hot tub, you may not even wonder, “Does my hot tub need to be serviced?” But, you should always keep this question at the back of your mind. At least once a year, your hot tub will need a professional tune-up. Even if everything is fine, this step is necessary to keep your hot tub in great condition. During this tune-up, a professional will check every inch of your hot tub to make sure it is working properly. This way, you will be able to catch any repairs that need to be made before they start causing issues.
