Can I Use My Sauna Multiple Times Per Day?

Using a sauna multiple times per day

If you have done any research on saunas, you know all the wonderful health benefits they offer. Detoxification, immunity boost, and relaxation are just a few of the well-known benefits of regular use. But just like anything that’s good for you, usage is key. Picture this: you’ve just gotten your sauna installed, you’ve been using it, and it’s A-MAZ-ING. But you’re left wondering, “How much is too much? Can I use my sauna multiple times per day?” Well, the answer is yes, no, and maybe. Let’s talk about it.

Personal Tolerance

It goes without saying that everybody is different. In fact, you might say that’s one of the best things about the human race, that we’re all so unique. But that also means we all have different tolerance levels for certain situations and circumstances, and sauna use is a perfect example of that.

Especially in the beginning, you’ll need to work up your tolerance and stamina. The high temperatures can be overwhelming for some users, so it’s best to take your time and listen to your body. Make sure that you hydrate well before and after your sauna sessions and allow your body the cool-down time it needs. Personal health and wellness is not a one-size-fits all kind of thing, so it’s important that you manage your own body’s needs well. And pay attention to how you feel. That way you’ll be able to gauge how much sauna use is optimal for your personal health goals.

Suggestions

Now, when it comes to actual recommendations for sauna use, generally twice a day is recognized as okay. That’s after you’ve taken time to get used to your sauna, and your body is well acclimated to the higher temperatures.

Your sauna use can also depend on the type of sauna you own as well. Do you have a traditional or an infrared sauna? Traditional saunas use heat and steam while infrared saunas use infrared light. Infrared saunas won’t heat the cabin as much, but the light frequency causes you to sweat more readily, so you’ll need to judge your personal tolerance depending on the type of sauna you choose.

Benefits Over Time

It’s also worth noting that many of the benefits of saunas happen over time with consistent use. Using your sauna more often during the day won’t increase the benefits you see, but use over time will. Many owners see benefits from using their sauna as little as only once a week if they break a sweat consistently over time. The most benefits seem to come when users enjoy a sauna session for about 30 minutes, three or fours times per week. Over time, you’ll be able to feel whether or not sauna use multiple times per day is right for you. Just keep in mind that more is not necessarily better when it comes to sauna use. You don’t want to overheat or become dehydrated; be mindful of your body’s needs.
