5 Ways to Get More “Me Time”

Did you know that about 8 out of every 10 people in the U.S. say they encounter stress in their everyday lives? Chances are you’ve struggled to drive the Stress Bus back to Calm City a time or two, and that’s normal. But what’s not normal, or healthy for that matter, is never taking the time for self-care. Most people make the mistake of thinking they need a whole day to get some alone time and make a snap decision that there’s simply no wiggle room in their busy schedule. The truth is, even a few minutes here and there can boost your physical and mental health. Here are 5 things you can do to get more “me time.”

1. “Me Time” Unplugged

Choose a time of day that you know you don’t need your electronics. Maybe in the morning, drink your coffee without checking email or social media. Or at night, read a book instead of mindlessly scrolling. Take these moments, even if it’s just a few minutes, and don’t worry about what anyone else is doing, or what they’re asking of you, and just enjoy the peace.

2. Soak in a Hot Tub

When it comes to relaxing, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anything as effective as soaking in a hot tub like a Hot Spring® Spa. Melt in the warm waters of your swirling spa and feel the tension and stress evaporate. And, 20 minutes in a hot tub is considered a regular spa session, so finding time to soak alone each day is fairly easy.

3. Get Creative

Whether it’s art, journaling, taking up a new hobby, or whatever else gets that creativity bug in you buzzing is an excellent way to get more “me time.” Don’t ever feel like you have to have special talent to enjoy a creative outlet. As long as it’s therapeutic for you, that’s all that matters!

4. Sweat it Out for Your “Me Time”

If you’ve got the time, swing by the gym and sweat out your stress. Not only is regular exercise good for your body, but it’s also an excellent way to lower anxiety. Plus, you can do it all by yourself. But, if you’d rather skip the gym, a hot tub is also the perfect place to do some exercises like Yoga or strength training. It’s a two-for-one!

5. Take a Class

Check at your local Civic Center or College and see what classes they offer the community. You may find some cool programs like creative writing, cooking, gardening, or even a music class. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn something new and enjoy a healthy dose of self-care once or twice a week.
