4 Ways to Fix Foamy Water Fast

You’ve heard the rumors, but you’ve never experienced it until now: the dreaded foamy hot tub water. All you wanted to do was take a nice, relaxing soak at the end of a long week, and now you have to deal with this. But where do you even start? Here are 4 ways to fix foamy water fast.

Check Your Water Balance

When you use your hot tub, you introduce things into your water. This is why it’s recommended to shower before using your hot tub — not because you’re dirty, but because anything on your body, from body lotion to even sunscreen, can affect your water’s chemical balance. This isn’t to say you shouldn’t wear sunscreen while enjoying your hot tub in the sun (because you should), but you’ll have to correct your water’s chemical levels to make up for it.

Often, a chemical imbalance is what causes foamy hot tub water, and all you’ll have to do is add hot tub chemicals or give it a shock and it’ll be as good as new.

Clean Your Filters

When was the last time you cleaned your hot tub water filter? It’s okay, you can be honest! We’re not here to judge, just to help you fix your foamy water. If it’s been over a week since you’ve rinsed your filters or over a month since you deep cleaned them, that could be the cause of your foamy water. According to Jacuzzi®, debris in your hot tub and dirty filters can cause bacteria to build up, resulting in foamy water. If you just scoop out the debris and clean your filters, your water should be sparkling clean soon.

Add Anti-Foam Chemicals

If you’re in a rush to fix your foamy water and need a temporary solution, add some anti-foam chemicals to your hot tub. This will get rid of your foamy water for up to 24 hours. However, this will not fix the cause of your foamy water, so leave this option for emergency use only. And, don’t buy any sort of foam remover from a big box store. Those cheap chemicals can make your foam worse. Let Texas Hot Tub Company help instead.

The Last Resort: Drain and Refill

If checking your water balance and cleaning your filters doesn’t fix your foamy water, you may have to drain and refill your hot tub. Sometimes this is just necessary — hot tubs get foamy water, even if you take care of it perfectly. After you drain your hot tub, be sure to wipe down the inside with a hot-tub-safe solution. Do not introduce any non-approved soaps or detergents to the hot tub, because that will just make the foam return. Once you refill it, your hot tub should be as good as new.
